You Beauty Discovery Box | August 2015
Wednesday 19 August 2015
This months' You Beauty Discovery Box was Summer Essentials themed, so, as expected it contained products that would be ideal for the summer or a vacation. I received this box just before I left for my holiday in early August so it was perfect timing. I was on the ball this month and managed to pick my products as soon as I got the email telling me what was on offer so nothing had sold out (phew!).
The first product that caught my eye was the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster . I've never tried anything from the brand before but i've heard lots of people raving about it before so I knew that I definitely wanted to try this serum. It's an oil-free serum loaded with Vitamin C and other antioxidants which help to smooth and brighten the appearance of the skin and reduce signs of ageing, giving it a more youthful glow. The antioxidants in this product help combat environmental factors, like pollution, that can be damaging to the skin. The serum is absorbed quickly and deeply into the skin providing long term results. I like the liquid consistency of this product which allows it to be quickly absorbed so that I can apply my moisturiser straight away. It also smells divine which is an added bonus! The full size product is worth a whopping £47.00 for 30ml so my 15ml sample is worth £23.50! (Best I use it sparingly then!)
The next product I chose was the Inika Mineral Bronzer in the shade Sunkissed. I've never owned a mineral bronzer before so I was looking forward to trying this out! The shade I received is perfect for fair to medium complexions, however it does contain some shimmer which Is slightly off-putting. The product applies evenly when I use the Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Face Brush and has good pigmentation. I haven't heard much about this brand before but after researching it i've discovered that it is certified organic, vegan and their products aren't tested on animals, which is great if you're trying to lead a more natural/vegan lifestyle. I received the full size version of this product which is worth £20.50.
The next two products that were included in the box were the Sienna X Gradual Glowing Self Tan sample and an excerpt from the book 'City of Bones' by Cassandra Clare. I was slightly disappointed with these two products purely because of their size! The gradual tan sample was 15ml so just enough for one use and considering this is a gradual tanning product I think it's going to be difficult to tell whether it works or not (I will report back once I'm back to my Casper the Ghost like appearance and have a need to use this product). The 200ml full size product is worth £15.95, so my 15ml sample is worth £1.20.
I'm also slightly confused why I received a book in this months beauty box. I love to read, don't get me wrong, but I like specific authors and genres and I think its pretty pointless receiving 3 chapters of a book. The book fits this months theme of 'Summer Essentials' however I would have prefered to have received an SPF or something beauty related, considering this is a beauty box.
Overall, I loved the products I chose this month but I was disappointed with the products picked for me by the You Beauty Discovery Team. The value of this box (minus the book) is worth £45.20… which is great considering the box only cost my £6.95!
What did you think of the shortlist this month?
